Immaculata’s academic advisors and academic coaches will assist you as you navigate your university experience and work toward your goals.
If you are a full-time, traditional undergraduate, you can get additional assistance with deciding on a major, adding a minor to your degree, improving your study skills, or finding a tutor or academic coach.
Academic Advising
Academic advisors are here to assist you at all points along your collegiate journey by providing general academic advice, guidance and coaching, regardless of your class year or major. If you are in the process of exploring options for a major, transitioning between majors, or choosing a minor to enhance your degree, advisors will assist you in finding the program that matches your personality, skills, and talents. Academic advisors work one-on-one with you as you explore options. Advisors will also help you decide on an academic course plan that will enable you to enroll in classes that interest you while satisfying liberal arts core requirements, which helps keep you on track to graduation.
Academic Coaching
Academic coaches will meet with you individually or in a group to help you understand and practice individualized learning tactics. You can receive guidance in several areas, including:
- Setting and achieving goals
- Developing study habits
- Note-taking strategies
- Organizational skills
- Test-taking strategies
- Time management
Academic coaching is a free service that allows you to meet with a coach on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis to ensure you stay on track with your studies.

First@IU Mentoring
Are you one of the first in your family to attend college? Then congratulations on a great achievement! We know college is challenging—and we know those challenges can sometimes be more difficult for first-generation students—so we’ve launched First@IU, a unique program dedicated to helping students succeed as they progress on their academic journeys.
First@IU helps you connect with other first-generation students, build a strong and collaborative network and meet mentors made up of faculty and staff from various backgrounds who were first-generation students themselves. You’ll find people who can relate to what you’re feeling and experiencing, explain the support services available to you, and cheer you on as you work toward your degree. What’s more, you’ll learn about resources to help you pay for college, build skills for academic success, feel more encouraged and empowered, and plan for your career!
