Purpose

The University’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is a multidisciplinary team of administrators who serve as the central point of contact for reports of individuals who have engaged in disturbing behavior or who have otherwise raised concern for the well-being of themselves or others. The BIT provides a proactive, objective, coordinated and caring approach to the evaluation, assessment and intervention in such cases of concerning behavior.

Examples of Concerning Behavior

Behaviors that should be referred to the BIT include:

Preoccupation with weapons, violent events or persons who have engaged in violent acts
Disturbing writings or verbal expressions
References to harming others or planning a violent or destructive event
Inappropriate behavior, such as prolonged irritability, angry outbursts, or intense reactions
Overly aggressive behaviors towards others
Indirect or direct threats in writings or verbalizations
Suicidal ideation and/or plans
Display of victim or martyr self-concept
Abrupt changes in behaviors, appearance or academic/work performance

How to Report Concerning Behavior

Acts of self-harm/violence or threats of self-harm/violence shall be reported immediately to the Department of Safety and Protection, 610-854-2451, and/or the appropriate law enforcement agency (911).

A report can be submitted in either of the below manners:

1: Complete the BIT Referral Form
- If you wish to remain anonymous, do not provide your name.
- However, an anonymous referral may hinder the ability to obtain additional information that may be important in making an assessment.
2: Email BIT@mypassword.oldgloryradio.com
- Submit a detailed email with as much relevant information as possible.

Associate Dean of Students
Executive Director, Academic Success/Advising
Executive Director, Human Resources

Additional University administrators serve as ad hoc members of the team depending on the individuals and circumstances involved in the referral.
