Esports is Immaculata’s 22nd addition to its roster of varsity athletic programs. The co-ed team will compete as a member of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) as well as in the ECAC’s Intercollegiate Esports competitions.
Esports are team-based video game competitions watched in person or online by spectators. Like Immaculata’s traditional sports, esports players wear team jerseys, compete in a newly-designed gaming room in the Lettiere Center and communicate with teammates and coaches as the game unfolds. Immaculata players will compete in popular games including Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, Madden Football, Super Smash Brothers and FIFA Soccer.
With 400 million fans worldwide and over 164 million Americans playing video games, Esports is fast approaching the apex of the sports universe. Its popularity has increased exponentially over the past few years with projected growth to rival even the NFL.
